International Organizations

MAKAIA means “to build” or “to make”, in Miskito (indigenous language of Honduras). This word represents the objective of MAKAIA: to build alliances and relationships oriented towards social and economic development.

For 17 years, MAKAIA has been promoting capacities for social development through cooperation, technology and innovation.

MAKAIA works from two lines of action:

TECHNOLOGY FOR SOCIAL CHANGE:

We bring technology to people and organizations in a friendly way and with proven methodologies so that they strengthen their capacities, access opportunities and knowledge.

Projects:

• Innovation Laboratories

Training and creative training for solutions generation in the form of project prototypes that respond to problems and needs identified by young people in their communities. Participants acquire electronics, robotics, and programming principles, as well as IT skills for the development of solutions to social, economic, health, and environmental problems, involving the strengthening of soft skills for personal and professional development.

• Code and Programming Bootcamp

The Code and Programming Bootcamp promotes diverse, inclusive and equitable employment in the IT sector that brings professional and economic growth opportunities closer to young people, women, migrants, people with disabilities and people over 50 years of age. During 2022 we have the participation of 265 people located in 19 departments and 43 rural and urban municipalities of Colombia. 10 Web Development groups were formed: 8 in Front End and 2 in Back End, 7 of these groups finished their training by December 31 and 3 of them were in training in December and it is planned to finish their process.

• Digital Transformation:

At MAKAIA, we believe that it is essential to contribute to the development of communities by strengthening social organizations and Micro and Small companies in their digital transformation, so that they achieve their maximum potential.

We also have a technology program for the social sector, where organizations, micro and small companies can access training and implementation services and training events. With the digital transformation programs, we benefited 3,219 organizations and 2,327 people.

RESOURCE MOBILIZATION:

We improve the capacities to mobilize national and international resources for social impact.

During 2022, the Resource Mobilization carried out different actions to improve and strengthen the national and international resource mobilization capacities of social organizations. In total, 31,470 people and 9,256 organizations benefited from this in the following programs:

• Nodo Ká

Platform that enables access to information and education on issues of resource mobilization, international cooperation for the impact sector in Latin America and the Caribbean.

• International cooperation solutions – SCI: Training services, consultancies, and open courses for social organizations on issues of resource mobilization, cooperation, and project formulation. We also offer other tailored services, such as mapping opportunities, agendas, and accompaniment in the construction of resource mobilization strategies.

In 2022, we developed 18 projects and/or programs in 24 departments of Colombia and 18 Latin American countries, benefiting 13,748 organizations, 36,874 people, and raising awareness among 146,126 more, with a social investment index of 1.4. As an organization, we managed to reach a cumulative figure in the years of operation of 84,861 people and 32,896 beneficiary organizations. In addition to 519,099 people sensitized in subject matters.
