Hope Haven Belize is an orphanage that provides a safe environment conducive to rehabilitating children who are survivors of physical abuse, sexual violence, and neglect. Hope Haven Belize provides shelter, education, medical care, and mental health care within a family setting to ensure the children can heal from their trauma and rebuild their lives.
Plans include providing a transitional home for children 18 years and older. We intend to support children transitioning from the orphanage into life outside Hope Haven Belize as young adults with the necessary skills to join the workforce and become productive members of their communities.
Hope Haven Belize hosts different Empower Her sessions that provide equitable opportunities for women and girls to learn and develop skills conducive to breaking the economic barriers they face in their families and communities. We serve migrant women and survivors of sexual violence, intimate partner violence, domestic violence, and struggling with substance abuse. These sessions also include financial literacy training to provide women with the ability to manage their finances personally. The sessions focus on lessons like event decorating, hairdressing, car driving, sewing, boat captain training, tour guide, and diving lessons.
Hope Haven Belize established a learning center that provides free literacy and numeracy lessons to children from low-income or no-income generating families post the Covid-19 lockdowns. Learning coaches work with the children in small groups and keep them engaged through interactive lessons. These lessons are aligned with the goals of the Ministry of Education of Belize. The learning center observes special days like international literacy day, child stimulation month, career day, and Children’s Day to provide the children with a school-like experience.
